Easy Felt Crafts: Coupon
Do you cut coupons to stretch your money or to try new items? Here's an easy felt crafts project showing how to
make a coupon organizer to hold those coupons.
Let's take a look at the coupon organizer, empty and full.
The finished size is 4 in x 7 in x 1.25 inches. The soft material flexes to hold a lot of
coupons or flattens when you have only a few.
Easy Felt Crafts: Coupon Organizer Materials and Tools:
- Craft felt (your favorite color) two pieces of 9 in x 12 in
- Yarn (size 3 or size 10 crochet yarn both work great)
- Yarn darner needle (a pack of size 14 to 18 gives you alternatives)
- Straight pins (optional to help hold the pieces together while sewing)
- Patterns (see below for downloadable pattern)
- Paper - construction or computer printer paper to make dividers
The Steps for How to Make the Easy Felt Crafts: Coupon Organizer:
Download and print the pattern. Cut one front, one back and two small end
pieces from the craft felt.
Thread your needle with your yarn of choice.
Next, sew a blanket stitch to connect the front and back panels across the base of the coupon organizer. (Our
Fun Easy Christmas Ornaments 2008 e-book contains detailed
pictures and how to steps for sewing the blanket stitch.)
Hide the beginning knot and the end thread on the inside of the seam.
With the blanket stitch, sew the end panels to the front matching the top of the front panel with the tops of
the end panels. Hide the beginning knots and the end threads on the inside of each of the seams.
Connect the bottom of the end panels to the bottom of the front panel. Make sure the bottom corner of the end
piece meets the seam sewn between the front and back panels. Hide any knots and end threads on the inside.
Sew the blanket stitch across the top of the front and end panels. This stitching adds stability to the opening.
Any knots and end threads should be hidden on the inside.
Start sewing the back to one of the two end pieces at the seam between the front and back. Make sure you
hide your knot on the inside.
Continue the blanket stitch around the top. Stop to position the back and the end. Use pins to help hold
the pieces of felt in position.
Hide the end piece of thread inside the finished seam and cut the thread.
Add a braid to the center of the seam between the back and front. The one shown here is six inches long plus 3/4
inch of fringe.
Add a loop to the center of the flap. The loop shown here consists of two threads covered in the blanket
To make dividers for your coupon organizer, print the coupon organizer divider pattern. Cut several
dividers and alternate the tabs at the top.
Name each divider based on the coupons you collect and use. Place the organizational name of the type of coupons
on each divider.
Select names from this list or add your own:
- Canned foods
- Frozen Foods
If you frequent the same stores, set up your dividers based on the stores and their specific
